CLG An Tearmainn : Club Notes for week ending 24 May 2015

We offer our sincere sympathy to Patsy, Pauline, Patrick, Helena, Serena and Laura on the death of Damien. Damien played football with the Club in his younger days, and a fine footballer he was. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam dhílis, agus go dtuga Dia suaimhneas dá chlann agus cairde.

Championship:

This Saturday evening at 6pm our Reserve team take on Killybegs at the Burn Road, with the senior game at 7.30. This is our only home fixture of the Championship, so we are looking forward to a good home support for the boys.

Concussion Awareness: The Donegal County Ladies Board held a very informative workshop on concussion, and http://learning.gaa.ie/player is a great website for anyone looking to learn about the symptoms and treatment of concussion, and we would recommend players, coaches and parents to take a minute to look at it. It is crucially important that any player, of any age, be removed immediately from the field in the event of a suspected concussion.

Minor Board notes May 24th in association with Kelly’s CENTRA Mountain top Letterkenny

Well done to our U6s and U8s who played their first “games” of the season on Saturday last. Thanks to Bernard Mc Ginley in St Michaels for taking his U6s as well as his U8s to our blitz. Our boys and girls, many playing their first ever “game” had a great time. Thanks to Paul , Conal and Aidan for their endless patience with our youngest players. Coaching will continue this Saturday 10.30 – 11.30 at the Burn Road. A huge thanks to everyone who helped make the U8 games such a success on Saturday. St Michaels and St Eunans were our guests and all our 28 boys and girls played two games and really seemed to enjoy the opportunity to play. Thanks to our referees and our coaches Jim and Liam for their hard work. A special thanks to all the parents who contributed refreshements for those in attendance and a very special thanks to the hard working team of mums that helped serve up the food.

This Saturday our U10s head off to Lifford for their first blitz of the season. David Brady and his assistants have worked hard with our young boys and girls in recent weeks and no doubt they will do us proud on Saturday. Enjoy everyone.

Our u12 boys hosted Downing in their first home games of the league on Wednesday last. The A team got enough scores early on to come out on top but Downings really did put it up to our boys in the second half and only for the performance of Caolan Reid in goals, and Kevin Mc Gettigan and Manus O Connell working hard in the middle of the field, the scoreboard would have been very different. The B team put in a super performance. Once again our Goalkeeper Thomas Cannon was in superp form in shot stopping and in kickouts. With Downing playing their stronger player in the second half it took some fantastic play from Cian Page, Eoghan Quinn and Blake Boal to keep Termon ahead and it took a late goal from Downing to steal the win. Result aside this was a great performance and the boys on both teams are looking forward to the visit of Glenswilly this Wednesday to the Burn Road. Throw in for the B game will be 7.15 with the A game getting underway at 8pm

Well done to all the U14 boys on their victory over Naomh Colmcille tonight. A very good display from all the boys on their first league game of the season. Bobby McGettigan,Aaron Reid,Stephen Black and Jack Alcorn controlled the back line very well while Ryan and Conor McFadden played very well in the middle of the park and some very good scores from Mark Gallagher, Steve McDaid and Jamie Grant up front. PJ and Andy will be hoping to see all the boys at training on Friday night 7.00 along with the U16 boys at the Burn Rd. Next U14 game is against St Eunans B on Monday night the 25thd ettails will be given out at Friday nights coaching.

LOTTO

Last week’s lotto numbers were 1,4,12 and 28. No jackpot or match 3 winner. Open draw winners were Sally Helferty and Jimmy Mc Elwaine who win €10 each. This week’s draw will be in The Glenveagh Inn on Friday with Kevin Mc Elwaine and Conor Tinney on duty. This week’s Bingo lotto sellers are Dermot Coleman and Paddy Gallagher. Thank you for your continued support with our weekly lotto.

LADIES

We have received notification that Donegal County Council propose to honour our All Ireland winning Ladies team with a civic reception on Tuesday June 2nd 2015. Civic Receptions are not bestowed lightly, and we are privileged to have been selected as guests of the Council. We hope that as many of our ladies as possible, together with their families, will be able to attend the Reception.

The Juniors’ game against Urris was postponed from last Wednesday the 13th to this Sunday May 24th at 12 o’clock at the Burn Road. Training for the Juniors continues Wednesdays and Fridays at 7 o’clock.

The U14 girls had no league game last week or this week, so they now have three games in hand. Nevertheless on Sunday the girls played Glenswilly in the Community Games final and in a hard fought battle came out on top by 5 points, it’s a first for the club. Now both the U12 and U14 girls are heading to Cavan on June 20th for the Ulster final. Hopefully the girls will be back in league action next week. Training continues and times will be sent out by text. Our four county players made the long journey to Portlaois last weekend for the All Ireland Blitz. Having won four and drawing one game, the group was tied and went to a shoot out with each team to hit 5 21 yard frees; unfortunately Donegal missed two. The Termon girls played in all five games and gave a great account of themselves. The U12 girls have a home game against Milford this Friday at 6 o’clock, players to be there at 5:30 please. The U12s Community Games squad had a good outing on Sunday beating Gaoth Dobhair in the final, with Mary Crumlish and Kelly Ellis playing key roles. The girls now travel to Cavan on June 20th to represent Donegal in the Ulster final.

Good luck to Geraldine Mc Laughlin and Laura Gallagher who were selected for the Ulster Interprovincial Team competing this weekend to defend the MMI Interprovincial trophy. Good luck to Rionach Giles, Mya Alcron, Eimear Alcorn and Sarah Trearty and the rest of the Donegal U14s county tea
