Letterkenny Gaels was the venue today for this senior Ulster Markey cup quarter final between St Columbas Glenties & Pobascoil Gweedore.
Firstly great credit to both teams in what was a terrible day for football with a strong gale blowing for the duration and also to the few hardy souls watching from the sideline.
The weather conditions took away from what should of been a terrific contest between 2 very talented football teams. The Glenties Scholars could boast 4 county minor panellists and 2 players from last season included in their starting line up with Gweedore boasting 5 of this seasons current minor squad.
The Glenties men played with the breeze in the first half and at the break took a 5 point lead into the changing rooms.
Glenties supporters at half time felt that might not be enough as the wind was going to play a vital part in the proceedings.
Gweedore at the start of the second half fired over a few wides and it seemed to be getting more difficult to score between the posts.
With time running out the Gweedore men started to find their range with 2 quick fire points and deep into injury time Michael Carroll had an opportunity to level with a long distance free and Thats just what he did. A superb free under intense pressure.
That was to be the final kick of the game and ensure this game would go to a replay.
Final Score: St Columbas 1-8, Pobascoil 1-8
