Buncrana GAA Notes for Week Ending Sunday 22nd February 2015
Club Presentation Night
The Club held its annual Presentation Night in the Gateway and it was a great opportunity to remember and mark the achievements of the Club at all levels over the past year. There was a great turnout and much thanks to the Gateway for a lovely meal and Denis Kelly for volunteering to be DJ for the night!
There were a lot of people whose contributions to the Club and teams at all levels, codes and genders were recognised and we only have space for a quick mention here. But a lot of praise must go to the hard work and efforts of the organisers, Claire McCarron, Pauline Grant and Malachy McCann who put such a fantastic night together for us.
Apologies if I’ve left anyone out but it’s hard to keep up as the list gets bigger every year – that’s the price of success!

Lá Fhéile Pádraig
We’re having a meeting at 8.30pm in the Clubhouse to discuss events for Seachtain na Gaeilge and St Patrick’s Day. Anyone interested in getting involved should come along or if willing to help but unable to attend then contact Deirdre, Grainne or any committee member. Everyone is encouraged to play their part in marking our national day and Irish cultural heritage. ‘Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine’ – translates as ‘People live in each others shadows’, meaning No person is an island. That is what makes a community!
Club Lotto
There was no winner of this week’s Club Lotto. The numbers drawn were 8, 15, 19, 22. Next week’s jackpot is €5000 and, in the event that there is no outright winner, we will hold the monthly draw for €500.
Scrap Saturday
Club Chairperson Sean Clerkin would like to thank everyone who helped out in our hugely successful Scrap Saturday. This has proven to be a great wee fundraiser for the Club over the past couple of weeks.
Underage News
It was another brilliant day for the U12 hurlers in Dungiven. They played 2 games against 2 of the strongest teams in the competition, Kevin Lynches and Dungannon. The boys showed real courage and skill from start to finish in beating Kevin Lynches. This got them really fired up for their second match against Dungannon. It too was no easy game but with the boys taking some fantastic scores and some great defending Buncrana was the stronger team and beat Dungannon. A brilliant effort by all and it will prove great encouragement for the challenges still to come.
