Buncrana GAA Notes for Week Ending Sunday 15th February 2015
Club Presentation Night
One of the main social events on the clubs calendar has arrived our Club Presentation & Awards night to be held this Saturday Night 21st Feb at 8.30pm in the Inishowen Gateway. Tickets €15 each which includes a buffet followed by presentations and disco. We are asking that you buy a ticket in advance rather than pay at the door as we have to give the Gateway a fairly close approx. of numbers due to the size of the room (we are in small function room this year) & actual ticket sales is the way to do this. Taking a less formal approach this year but still guarnteeing a great nights entertainment. The club has had a lot of success this year; hurling at minor & senior level in ulster, ladies football promotion, men’s football championship run, the club was represented at county level in both hurling & football etc., so we have much to celebrate & be proud of on Saturday night. It’s a great chance for club members, sponsors, supporters & the parish in general to get together & acknowledge the work that we all do week in week out on & off the pitch……an enjoyable night is guaranteed!!!!!
Tickets can be purchased from:
Pauline Grant 0864401203
Mary McKinney 0863169809
Claire McCarron 0863340965
Malachy – 0868042607
Well Done Lads
Hard Luck to 2 former members, Matty Deeney and Declan Walsh and their teams who were defeated, in the Junior Club All Ireland finals this weekend. Both players played all their underage Football/Hurling with Buncrana and its good to see the Club nurturing such future talent.
Scrap Saturday
I would like to personally thank all the people who helped in a very successful scrap Saturday. I would also like to thank the people who contacted me who were unable to help on Saturday past due to other commitments. Scrap Saturday will go ahead next Saturday again the 21st Feb at 10.30am. I would again appeal to club members/players to make themselves available for this fundraiser. Sean Clerkin, Club Chairperson
Coaches/Parents
Any adult involved with underage in the Club must be a member of Buncrana GAA and, in line with Croke Park, be Garda vetted. Forms are available from our Child Protection Officer, Club Secretary or downloaded from our website (garyduffy20@hotmail.com or secretary.buncrana.donegal@gaa.ie).
The club intends to hold a stand alone child protection course for those adult members who may work with our underage in the coming season. Please register your interest with the club secretary, Gráinne
Mizen to Malin Cycle
The Club needs 20 committed cyclists to take part in our Mizen to Malin Club Fundraiser later this year. So far we have around half that but we need a few more to ensure the event goes ahead. There will be a meeting in the Clubhouse at 8.30 pm February 17th so please come along if you want to get involved in any way.
Starting from Mizen on June 30th and ending in Malin on July 5th, the Club has earmarked this as our major fundraising event for 2015 and will be donating a good slice of the proceeds to a local charity. This event will be a prime example of our Club fundraising to support our young people’s activities and contribute to local community development at the same time.
Anybody interested in doing the cycle or helping organise please contact Brian Stokes. This is a massive undertaking and lot of support roles need to be filled. See you at the meeting on February 17th!
Donegal GAA Yearbook
Donegal GAA Year Book is available now. This is a good read and amazing to see how much the club achieved in 2014 – here’s hoping we do as well or better in 2015. For your copy contact Grainne on 0864650200.
Underage News
U12 Hurlers had their first indoor games on Sunday 8th February. The “a” team were very unlucky in the first game where they were beaten by Na Magha. Then they played Slaughneil where they upped their game and came out on top. Following that they played Kevin Lynches which was a hard battle and the boys took some heavy slaps but ended up with a win. The “b” team also played against Slaughneil and Kevin Lynches they we unlucky in both games and they gave it 100% in each game. Well done to all
