Buncrana GAA Notes for Week Ending Sunday 25th January 2015
U16 Players
Following a discussion at January’s monthly meeting, the committee decided that it is best practice that U16 players are not to train or play with the Senior teams in either football or hurling. This is not just a Club decision but is accordance with the guidelines set by the GAA. The guidelines clearly state this and we must abide by them. One of the main issues is child protection. As already discussed at a meeting held by the Bord Na nÓg chairman, it was clear that Buncrana Club has to protect this age group especially on the issue of player burnout. It is important to point out that a large number of these players are doing their Junior Cert exams and senior management have been asked to strictly adhere to the above. As always our Club values and will protect the health and well-being of our members, especially our younger players, above everything else.
Sean Clerkin Chairman
Coaches and Managers 2015
With most of the positions now filled the Club is looking forward to a successful 2015 season in all codes at all age levels and in both genders! We will publish the full management and coaches list for the new season in next week’s Notes once everyone has been ratified. Let’s get behind our teams and give everyone, players and management, the support they need to make it a season to remember!
Club Officer Training
This will be held on 4th of February in Ballybofey and will be particularly useful for those Officers who have taken on new roles.
Mizen to Malin Club Fundraiser
The Clubs big fundraising ‘cyclathon’ is definitely going ahead, starting from Mizen June 30th and ending in Malin on July 5th. The Club has earmarked this as our major fundraising event for 2015 and is bringing on a local charity (which one is yet to be confirmed) as a partner. This event will be a prime example of our Club fundraising to support our young people’s activities and contribute to local community development at the same time.
Anybody interested in doing the cycle or helping organise please contact Brian Stokes. This is a massive undertaking and lot of support roles need to be filled.
Garda Vetting
New Garda Vetting forms have been in place since July 2014 and are available for download from our website, Club Secretary, Grainne Ui Chearain, or Childrens Officer, Gary Duffy. Any club member who has responsibility for or contact with underage members in the course of their involvement with the club has to be Garda vetted.
