It was a day of mixed fortunes at the banks on Sunday when both teams took on Malin in the final group game of the senior championship. The reserves put in a great performance beating Malin by 4-14 to 0-03. Francis (Frankie Pat) Gallagher with three goals in the first half setting them on their way.
The seniors started lively enough and enjoyed early possession but a series of errors, both forced and unforced allowed Malin to get easy scores on the board. Naomh Muire had three goal chances yet went in at half time 0-8 to 0-3 behind. The second half saw a determined Naomh Muire pull back with a goal and a point leaving only a point in it after 5 minutes and it looked like the home side could by now match the visiting Inishowen side and indeed drive ahead. This wasn’t to be and Malin sensing a Naomh Muire comeback took control of the match and pulled ahead, dominating the rest of the second half and having it too easy in getting in for goals which killed off the match as a contest.
The seniors will now play Gleann Fhinne in the playoffs. The winners will secure senior championship football next year while the losers will play the losers of the other playoff between Na Cealla Beaga and Bun Dobhráin. Naomh Muire’s playoff will take place in Glenties on Sunday (19th) at 12:00.
There was a big night in the Banks on Friday night with an Under age Blitz between Naomh Muire and our neighbours Gaoth Dobhair under lights. Over 50 young players were involved in a great evening of football. Our thanks to CLG Gaoth Dobhair and the coaches for bringing up the teams and to our own catering staff of Anne Celine, Frances, Morag and Caitlín…to our own Coaches and Charlie and Ciaran for reffing.
