Senior Men
The lads were in action away to Urris on Saturday evening with both seniors and Reserves playing. The reserves was the early game throwing in at 6pm. The lads were missing a few of the regular starters but put in a brave performance. It was nip and tuck most of the way with the lads from Clonmany pulling away in the later stages the final score was Red Hughs 0-11 Urris 3-8
The senior lads had a tough battle on their hands with Urris already putting them to the sword at home earlier in the season. This game was a great spectacle with some terrific play from both teams. Every man was doing his bit for the cause and nobody was hiding. With the game coming to a close the Home side were three points to the good. But the Red Hughs lads dug deep rallied by a terrific point from veteran Eugene Browne. They added three more point in the dying minutes to run out worthy winners by a solitary point. The final score was Red Hughs 1-10 Urris 1-9
They now meet Urris again at home next week in the first game of the championship.
Senior Ladies
The ladies had a great victory over Malin at home today. It was a very tight first half as each side had some good periods of domination and making it count. The visitors were physically stronger around the middle of the park and the Reds ladies struggled to take control but managed to go in at half time 2 point up on a score line of 2-2 to 1-3 The second half was a very different affair the with Red Hughs ladies taking control all over the park. In wave after wave of attack they almost scored at will and left the Malin girls shell shocked. It was Malin’s first defeat of their league campaign. The Cross girls ran out easy winners on the day and the final score was Red Hughs 4-10 Malin 1-6. Well done girls keep up the hard work now.

The minor lads played Malin at home on Monday evening in their opening game of the championship. Monellan Woods Walk
Young and old alike can now travel safely to and from the Red Hughs pitch from ‘The Glen’, through Monellan Woods, via a newly constructed path.
The path, which is for pedestrian and cyclists only, can be accessed through the old lane that runs alongside Sarah Anne Kelly’s house (opposite Philip and Betty Gallaghers).
Walkers are also free to use the Red Hughs car park to park their vehicles is needed.
This project is a joint venture between Crossroads and Killygordon Enterprise (CAKE) and Red Hughs.
The development would not have been possible without the voluntary digger work of John Doherty (Curragh) as well as the hedge cutting of Gerard Byrne and clearance of bushes along the lane by Mickey Kelly.
It is hope that further works on the upgrading of the route through Monellan will be carried out in the coming months, thanks to Coillte.
A lot of time and effort went in to this project, so the local community is being asked to take care of it, keep it clean and report any incidences of vandalism.
Likewise, people travelling through Monellan Woods should respect this wonderful amenity and keep it litter free.
