Carndonagh GAA club was formed in 1921 as a hurling club and named Cuchulainns. Gaelic football was not introduced to the club until 1938. The forties, fifties and sixties saw many honours for the club in both codes. In 1947 and 1948 Carn had twelve players on the county senior hurling team. Like today many of their players were dual. Camogie was also played in the club at this time. In the seventies owing to emigration etc there were no adult football team but the hurlers still played in tournaments and had annual visits to Perth in Scotland for shinty games. Camogie was also played at senior level at this time. Underage was still strong at both codes hence in 1983 the club was restructured and since that has gone from strength to strength gaining honours in all codes. In 2001 the decision was taken to move to a new home in foden which was officially opened in 2006. The addition of the indoor sports facility ten years later was a huge achievement. Carndonagh are proud to be a “One Club” model for over twenty five years promoting football, hurling, camogie and ladies football at all levels. In 2023 the club caters for thirty underage teams and seven adult teams. The club is also represented across all codes from U15 to adult in county teams.
