GAA Notes: Week Ending 17-8-14

Club Notes

Any items for inclusion in the weekly Club Notes must be with the relevant PRO by 6:00 on Monday evening at the latest. This is to facilitate local press and ensure that our notes can reach as wide an audience as possible, including those currently far from home. Minor Board – Eddie Harkin eddie.harkin@wuerth.ie 0866082512 Ladies Board – Madeline McDaid mcdaidmads@eircom.net 0877716511 Senior Board – Connell McGrenra clgantearmainn@live.ie 0860858109

Seniors & Reserves

The Reserves got their first points of the campaign last Sunday when they drew with neighbours Glenswilly at The Burn Road. Strong defensive performances from James Lee McLaughlin, JR McDaid & Paul McGettigan; incisive forward play from Joe Gallagher, Eamonn Sherry & Jimmy McElwaine; and a powerful midfield partnership of Thomas Cullen and Caolan Mellett meant the team can consider themselves unlucky not to get the full points. Hopefully they can push on now with just a few weeks left until the Championship action begins.

The Seniors were defeated in their match, in a game where the scoreboard probably didn’t reflect the play. Some bad misses from Termon were punished fully by the visitors, but the presence of 7 U-21 players on the panel tells its own story.

U-21s

The U-21s are due to play their replay match against Naomh Mhuire Convoy this Tuesday August 26th in Convoy, with a throw in time of 7:00. We would encourage any and all supporters to come out and cheer on this young team. With the first game finishing 2-16 to 4-10, there is likely to be a feast of football to be enjoyed by all.

Minor Board in association with ESB Networks

It was a day of mixed feeling for our representatives on the Donegal U16 Buncrana Cup squad; Lee Doherty, Enda Mc Cormick and James Mc Sharry on Saturday last. After featuring prominently in the recent games the three boys started the semi-final against Armagh on the bench, with only Enda making a second half appearance, and the match ending in defeat for Donegal. In the 3rd place play-off, all three featured and made significant contributions in Donegal’s hugely impressive victory over neighbour’s Derry, with Enda and James getting on the score sheet and Lee also putting in a fine performance.

Thanks to parents and children alike for the great numbers in attendance at last week’s Cul Camp. After some rain breaks on Monday and Tuesday the remainder of the week was uninterrupted and the children all seemed to really enjoy the experience. It was a pity no Donegal Senior player was available to attend, as this would really have been the icing on the cake. Thanks to Brian Trearty for all his efforts and the increase in numbers is a great reward for his efforts. Well done Brian. Thanks also to PJ and Chris for looking after the dressing rooms and pitch and thanks to Frank McGettigan for taking the photos.

Our U13 B team got their League campaign up and running last Wednesday night in challenging conditions with the heavy rain a factor for most of the game. While Cloughaneely were the winners on the score board, the level of performance from our young team, almost entirely U12 and U11, was superb. While victories will be hard to come by, hopefully these young boys will benefit greatly from these games.

Our U8s travelled in large numbers to play Letterkenny Gaels on Saturday morning last. Thanks as usual to David Brady for his efforts with this age group. We hope to have games for this age group prior to the start of our sports this Sunday, more details later in the week.

Our U10s are travelling to Malin to take part in a tournament this Saturday morning. Details will be sent out in the next few days.

We expect the U12 County Finals day to be coming up in the next week or so for our U12 boys who won the Northern Board competition a few weeks ago. Hopefully we will have full details next week.

We have just launched a major fundraising drive to raise funds to enable work to resume on preparing our Training pitch which as you all know, is very badly needed to relieve the pressure on our main pitch at The Burn Road. The fundraiser is supported by all elements of the club, the Ladies Board, Senior Board and Minor Board. Termon GAAs’ “Guess the score” which relates to the upcoming All Ireland Semi-final between Donegal and Dublin will allow everyone to have their chance to predict the score in this already much talked about fixture. Lines are on sale at €3 each. We will be seeking your support with this and we hope to have every family that have a club player of any age on board to sell a sheet or at least part of a sheet for this fundraiser. Over the next few days we will begin to distribute these sheets so again we are appealing for your support with this. Should any family receive more than one sheet, please return the surplus sheets to any committee member.

Ladies

Senior Ladies: Congratulations to the Senior Ladies who are on their way to the County Final, after defeating Moville at home in the Semi-Final last Sunday. Absent some regular starters, the Ladies struggled in the first half against a determined Moville team, but an improved second half performance paved the way to victory. They will now play Glenfin in the County Final on Sunday September 7th with venue & time TBC at a later date. Training continues at usual times, and all girls are asked to please make a big effort to attend training. Junior Ladies: The Junior Ladies were defeated at home by Naomh Mhuire in the 2nd leg of the Championship. Texts will be sent out re a match this weekend, with a possible Saturday evening fixture. Training continues on Monday and Thursday evening. All of the Junior Ladies, and the whole club, would like to wish Harry McGlynn a very Happy Birthday. We won’t speculate on how many candles were needed on the day! Under 16: The under 16 Ladies are in the A Championship and have been grouped with St Nauls Mountcharles and Naomh Conaill Glenties. Their first match is away to Glenties on Tuesday evening. Therese will text with details. It is extremely important all girls attend Under 16 training on both nights if we wish to progress to the County A semi-final. If there are any problems, please contact Therese on 0877617104. Under 12: Congratulations to all the Under 12 girls who took part in the County Blitz on Saturday. The girls made it all the way to the Final but finished runners up. Thanks to Lisa, Emily, Harry and

Rhionach who managed and helped out on the day. Also big thanks to the event organisers. It was a fantastic day at an excellent venue, and it was great to see some of the County Senior Ladies out supporting the stars of the future.

Annual Sports Day

Termon GAA will be hosting their Annual Sports Day this coming Sunday 24th August at 2:00 and will surely be a day not be missed. There will be plenty of activities for all the family to enjoy, with something for everyone, and lots more surprises to be revealed on the day. Spread the word and come out and support your local club for a day of fun filled activities at The Burn Road.

Lotto

There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 8, 15, 17 and 26. Match 3 winner was Joe O’Connell. Open draw winners were Carmal Flanagan and Martina Kelly.

Can the lotto coordinators for each week please send the results to the PRO for inclusion in the notes by Monday evening at the latest. They can either be sent by text to 0860858109, or by e-mail
