St Eunans through to both A and B @MMurphySports Senior Finals
St Eunans through to both A and B @MMurphySports Senior Finals

St Eunans will play Naomh Conaill in the Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Senior Championship final next Sunday, October 9th in Páirc Sheáin MhicCumhaill. They overcame a Kilcar side that fought back from six points down to level the scores half way through the second half but never managed to get their noses in front as Eunans regrouped and moved the gap back out to three points going into added time. Kilcar did have late opportunities but the Cathedral town men held out for a narrow win – a final score of St Eunans 1-13 Kilcar 1-11.

Kilcar opened the scoring and it was score for score for much of the first quarter but St Eunans asserted control thereafter with a Padraig McGettigan goal. They looked like taking a six point cushion in at the break but a late Jason Campbell goal for Kilcar left it 1-8 to 1-5 at half time and made for a more interesting second period. Kilcar certainly took heat from goal with two scores from Partrick McBrearty and one from Ryan McHugh drawing them level.

St Eunan’s also triumphed, over Gaoth Dobhair, in the Reserve final, another close encounter with a two point margin, this time 1-12 to 1-10. An early Sean Doherty goal gave Gaoth Dobhair the start they needed and they were leading 1-3 to 0-2 when a Cian McMonagle goal closed the gap and it was nip and tuck for most of the rest of the game. Entering the last ten minutes Eunans hit a purple patch to go three up and while Gaoth Dobhair brought it back to the minimum in added time, Donnachadh Devenney had the final say to ensure Eunans a double date with Naomh Conaill next Sunday.

The B final will be streamed live by Donegal GAA TV, while the Senior A final will be broadcast live by TG4.
