Malin 0-12 Killybegs 1-04

Malin got off to a great start on Sunday with a home victory in their opening game in division 2 of the all county league over Killybegs on a scoreline of Malin 0-12 Killybegs 1-04. Killybegs started the brighter and were three up in as many minutes with Eoin Ban Gallagher pointing after running straight through right from the throw in. Hugh McFadden scored from  a free after he himself had been fouled 30 yards out and then tapped over a 45’with ease. Malin came back with two Anthony Kelly frees when Danny McCarron had been pushed and Dan McDaid had been held back. Malin were dealt what looked like a huge blow on 15 minutes when player manager Anthony Kelly recieved a black card, a decision which he could have no argument about. However his replacement Thomas McLaughlin had a great game hardly putting a foot wrong and others stepping up a level.  They were soon level through a great team score finished off by Dan McDaid, there was some very impressive contributions as the ball was moved right across the pitch from Damien Harkin, Connor McColgan and Thomas McLaughlin to set it up and Big Dan made no mistake. Killybegs responded with a goal midway through the half when a high ball in from McFadden wasn’t dealt with and Eamonn Bonner pounced and slotted in a goal from close range. Malin came back strongly with the score of the game from Declan Walsh off the outside of his boot from about forty yards out. Dan McDaid stepped up to the free taking duties and scored after Damien Harkin was brought down. He followed up his free when he scored on the turn after good work from Seamus Houghton, who  had won a long ball in and worked it out from the corner, to set him up. McDaid added a free on the stroke of half time from a central area to leave the half-time score reading Malin 0-07 Killybegs 1-03. Malin made a bright start to the second half with Seamus Doherty scoring from the left after a great delivery inside. It could have been even better  moments later but Dan McDaid’s effort on goal came back off the post. Seamus Houghton added another for Malin to edge the lead out to three after he did well to win a high ball in from Seamus Doherty above his head and advanced towards goal before fisting over. McFadden responded with a free after he himself had been fouled for the fishermens only score of the second half. Houghton scored another point off the post as he ran through on goal after being fed by Dan McDaid. Substitute Brendan McLaughlin killed off the game for Malin late on with two carbon copy scores off his weaker right foot coming in at pace from the right hand side as Terence Coulhoun and Anthony Kelly’s men got their season off to a winning start.
