Buncrana GAA Notes for Week Ending Sunday 12th October 2014

Senior Football

Excellent results for Seniors and Reserves who did the double on Naomh Columba in their final Group games on Sunday at the Scarvey. The weather and conditions were glorious and so was the football. The Reserves edged out a narrow win but the Seniors certainly did the strong home support’s heart rates no favours as they had to come back from being 7 points behind at half time. Neighbours Carn did us a huge favour by beating Milford which means Buncrana now qualify for a quarter final slot.

Senior Training

Seniors & Minors Hurling training is on Wednesdays at 7.00pm. All players are urged to make every effort to attend.

Seniors, Reserves, U-18, & U21 Football training is on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7.30 in the Scarvey. New players always welcome!

Senior Ladies

The Senior Ladies have certainly put any regrets at losing out in the championship behind them as they made another piece of history today! They won the Div 3 County Final against Cloughaneely on Sunday and with it have earned promotion to Intermediate. There’ll be some celebrating done in the town tonight! But don’t forget, training every Wednesday at 7.30 in the Scarvey and new members always welcome.

Cursa Gaeilge

Beginners Irish Conversation Classes starting this Tuesday night (14th) in the Scarvey 7 – 8.30 pm. Please note this course is for beginners only or those who haven’t spoken Irish in many years. Participants will be awarded with An Fáinne or Cúpla Focal pins as recognition of their levels of spoken Irish at the end of this 20 week course. The course costs €40 and all proceeds go towards the Club Development Fund. Fáilte roimh achan duine

Under Age Reports

The Under 13 Girls had a great win 3-2 to 2-8 in their quarter final on Saturday in Newtown. They played against a very strong and skilful Killybegs side in really bad weather conditions but the Buncrana girls adapted best to the elements. They now progress to the Semi-Finals next Saturday but their next opponents are not known yet.

U13 Div 1 shield final against Mac Chumhaills will be held on Friday 17th at 7.00pm in the Scarvey and all support will be most welcome.

U8 training finished up last weekend, with a home blitz involving Steelstown, Naomh Colmcille and Burt. It was a great day of football and they showed all the hard work and skills that they achieved throughout the year. Thanks to all the parents, coaches, and referees who helped make this day a success. 45 children then went to the cinema and The 4 Lanterns on Sunday as an end of year treat (funded by the children themselves). Thanks to all who helped throughout the year and we’ll be in contact with all the 2007 & 2008 children shortly.
