Buncrana GAA Notes for Week Ending Sunday 7thDecember 2014

The Club held its AGM last week in the Scarvey and the Clubhouse was packed out. The outgoing committee were thanked for their work over the past year and the new committee was elected and ratified. We will have a fuller account of proceedings on the night in our next Notes but in the meantime thanks to all who attended, made their voices heard and we look forward to another great year for our Club.

County A U21 Championship

Buncrana bowed out at the Quarter final stage on Saturday but that is not to take away from the fine Four Masters performance. Buncrana fielded an understrength team, missing at least 4 key players and had to rely on some of the younger panel members to take on a much bigger, more experienced outfit. Our young team gave all they had and we know that is there a lot of potential in this young squad for the years ahead. Much thanks must go to the management team, especially Lawrence Hegarty, who put a lot of time and effort into getting the team this far.

Minor B County Championship

The Minors will be taking on the Four Masters in this game but the details have still to be confirmed. The info will be posted on our Facebook page when issued.

Minor Girls Mini Blitz

The Girls season ended on Sunday when they took part in their last competitive games in O’Donnell Park on Sunday. They’ll be glad of the break given the near-Artic conditions on the day with wind, rain, hail and sleet battering them as they lost out to Fanad Gaels and St Eunan’s, both extremely strong and experienced teams. Indeed, St Eunan’s went on to win the competition and will next meet Four Masters in the County B Final.

Minor Football Presentation

The Presentation of Ulster and All Ireland Runner up medals for minor football will take place in the Mount Errigal Hotel Letterkenny on Saturday 29th November. Tickets cost €25.

U12 indoor hurling continues on Monday nights in Crana College from 6:30-7:30. Eligible children will have been born in 2003/2004. All new comers are welcome. Fee €2 for Hall. Competitions start in January.

Scoot on over to the Club website – buncranagaa.com – where we’re doing a bit of revamping there. Hopefully we’ll have the decorations and tree up there for Christmas! Any good photos you have that we could upload would be much appreciated, email them to buncrana.pro@gmail.com. You can renew your annual membership there too – and you don’t even have to be in Buncrana! Membership now open worldwide…

GAA National Draw

The Club is participating in the GAA National Draw – There are fantasic prizes, including a trip for two to New York, a €1,000 shopping voucher, not to mention a trip next year with the All Stars and various corporate packages for the All-Ireland’s 2015!

You can enter the draw online at www.buncranagaa.com/national-club-draw-2015/. Please enter and help to raise funds that aid the development of Buncrana’s young people and help make our community better.

Cursa Gaeilge

Na dean dearmad – Irish class this Tuesday in the Clubhouse as usual.

SAVE THE DATE! Santa is coming to the Scarvey on December 20th. This has proven to be a great days fun for kids (and parents too!) in the past few years and Santa has never disappointed them yet. We’ll post more details later once everything’s confirmed, particularly Santa’s arrival time from North Pole, which can be hard to depict as it’s such a busy time of year for him! Anyone who has any unwanted Christmas decorations or lights then please donate to the club, we will gratefully accept them, just let Claire or Grainne know. Anyone wanting to volunteer a few hours wrapping, helping out on the day, etc, most welcome too.

Scór na nÓg– CLG Dhún na nGall

At the time of writing our Scór na nÓg group are taking part in the Ulster semi-final in Glenullin on Sunday. They are performing a drama, “Sean Carraigeacha na hÉireann”, so good luck to them and we hope they’re enjoying the experience.
